Chateau de Feraillou, Self Catering Accomodation in the Dordogne Region of France

View of the Pool at the Chateau de Feraillou Self Catering Accomodation in the Dordogne

An elegant small modernised C17th  French Chateau with swimming pool in a secluded Dordogne hamlet, available for rent in the holiday season.

The nearest shops are in La Tour Blanche, a picturesque village two kilometres away, whose excellent baker, butcher, pharmacy and post office can supply most basic needs.  More exotic shopping (English newspapers and a  bank) can be found in Verteillac (6kms).  The nearest town is Riberac (15kms) with its famous Friday morning market.  Brantome - the Venice of the Perigord and famous gastronomic centre - is 20kms away and Perigueux itself is half an hour's drive where the old town is most attractive, with well restored streets and squares, and irresistible cafes.  Nearby are the attractions of the Northern Perigord with its well-known châteaux, mediaeval villages and Romanesque churches. The famous beach at Arcachon is a day's excursion while the vineyards of Bergerac and Bordeaux are closer at hand.  For example Saint Emilion itself is only 80kns away.  Local restaurants range from the cheap and simple to grand and expensive, while the variety of prepared local delicacies, fruit and cheeses makes self-catering a pleasure rather than a chore.  The local countryside is undulating and unspoilt, being either wooded or planted with sunflowers or maize and studded with small villages, little changed for years and often with one of the fortified Romanesque churches for which the region is famous. Although such famous attraction as the prehistoric caves at Lascaux are a day's trip the Perigord Vert is less touristy than further South and its roads wonderfully traffic free for anyone from crowded Britain.

We keep a book in the house giving details and suggestions about local attractions, restaurants and vineyards.
